a bit about me…

Hi I’m Molly! I live in a cabin in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with my partner Grant, and pup Leroy. I spend most of my time being an artist (which sometimes means making art and sometimes means running a small business), and I also work part time as a climbing guide, and a ski patroller in the winter months. Often my search for new landscapes to paint (and new rocks to climb) takes me elsewhere for stretches of time, so sometimes Grant and I can be found roaming the country in an old red Tacoma with a camper on the back. I graduated in 2014 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with degrees in Illustration and Art History. For many years I worked outside year-round, and lived mostly out of my car, doing seasonal jobs, and traveling when I could — always with my paints and sketchbook in hand. Since then I’ve found a wide variety of ways to paint and explore the outdoors. I spend as much of my time as possible painting - ideally outside. I also spend a lot of time climbing (maybe too much?), split-boarding, cross country skiing, running, gardening, cooking, finding new swimming holes, and romping around the woods near my home. I work primarily in watercolor - I love how portable it is, its effervescence and translucence, and how it continues to challenge me in new ways.

Watercolor painting is one of the many ways that I connect to the natural world. I find that painting outside heightens my awareness of my surroundings, which informs my work by allowing me to notice things I might not otherwise. The process of creating a painting based on a specific location strengthens my connection to that place, and my hope is that this makes my work more powerful for my audience. My work is a way of capturing an experience or a feeling, and hopefully making it available to others in some way. My paintings are intimate representations of the natural world because this is how I experience it - in moments of sharp clarity. I want my artwork to pull people in - to feel close and personal in some way.  I love to capture light and pattern in my artwork, and draw inspiration from my beautiful surroundings, my incredible community, and the natural world.
